ACCOMMODATION
The name Karoo comes from the Khoisan word Garo which means dessert, but the Central Karoo is not exactly that, it is somewhere in between the Cape’s fynbos and a dessert with a very low growing eco system that needs very little water to survive making the rainfall a big part of why a place can be called a karoo, the extreme heat and cold also plays roles in the name.

It was named after the Reverend Andrew Murray Snr, who was minister of Graaff-Reinet, and Barend O J Burger, who played a role in the establishment of the town. An original condition for the purchase of any residential plot in Murraysburg was that the plot needed to be surrounded by a quince hedge.
